14-Year-Old Arrested In Atlantic City Shooting, Handgun Recovered: Police

A 14-year-old juvenile wanted in a recent shooting has been arrested, authorities said.

On May 31, at 9:33 p.m., Atlantic City patrol officers responded to the first block of South Florida Avenue in reference to a report that someone was shot. Police found a man shot multiple times.

The victim, 29, of Atlantic City, was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, for treatment of his injuries. An investigation conducted by detectives of the Violent Crimes Unit led to the identification and charges against a 14-year-old juvenile, police said.

On Friday, June 10, at 8:30 p.m. Special Investigations Detective Christopher Dodson observed the juvenile suspect in the first block of South Florida in the company of a group of males. 

With the assistance of additional patrol units, the officers converged on the group. Three males in the group ran from the officers. After a short foot chase, Detective Dodson and Sergeant Garry Stowe apprehended the 14-year-old wanted juvenile, police said.

 In the immediate vicinity of where the juvenile was apprehended, Detective Dodson located a loaded handgun fitted with a high capacity magazine. The handgun was also determined to be a “ghost gun”, a firearm that lacks a serial number rendering the weapon difficult to trace. 

Officer Ivaylo Ivanov apprehended Genesis Silva, who was found to be in possession of 10 grams of suspected crack cocaine, a digital scale containing a white powdery residue, and $2,891 in cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales. Officers Wahab Malik and Atiqul Islam apprehended Juan Antigua-Silva, who was found to be in possession of 24 grams of suspected heroin, 4 grams of suspected crack cocaine, and a digital scale.

The 14-year-old suspect was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a high capacity magazine, and possession of a “ghost gun”.

Genesis Silva, 24, of Atlantic City was charged with several drug offenses and resisting arrest, police said.

Juan Aquino-Silva, 23, of Atlantic City. was charged with multiple drug offenses, police said.

The juvenile was remanded to Harbor Fields Juvenile Detention Facility. Silva and Aquino-Silva were issued summonses pending future court dates.
